The Jack Charlton Young Employee of the Year Competition
The objective of the competition, now in its ninth year, is to encourage young people in Tynedale to learn and develop new skills and gain valuable work experience and in turn to contribute to the successful development of the area. Organised in partnership with the North East Chamber of Commerce, it is open to those between the ages of 16 and 25 years in full time employment in Tynedale, and undertaking formal and continuing training.

Young Designer and Young Technologist of the Year Competition
The objective of the competition is to enable young people in Northumberland Schools to showcase their GCSE and A level project work in Design and Technology.

Entries are adjudicated by two teams of judges, from both the academic and business sectors, one for Design and one for Technology.

The competition is held in early July, with display and final judging at the Discovery Museum in Newcastle. All schools are invited to enter students who are taking GCSE and A-level examinations.  Entries are always of a very high standard and some have strong commercial potential. Currently a total of £2000 is offered in prizes across the Design and Technology categories including a prize for the best overall school and a prize for Innovation and Enterprise.

Winner of the 2007 competition, Scott Robson and runner up Philippa Gibson receive their prizes from President Andy Pryor of the Rotary Club of Hexham.
