Rotary is an organisation of business and professional people who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Rotary has around 1.2 million members who belong to more than 30,000 Clubs in 168 countries.
Members of Rotary Clubs represent a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. Club's meet weekly and are non-political, non-religious, and open to all cultures, races and creeds.
The main objective of Rotary is service - in the commmunity, in the workplace and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy and violence. They also support programmes for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers and other professionals, and vocational and career development. The Rotary motto is SERVICE ABOVE SELF.
In Great Britain and Ireland, there are over 58,000 Rotarians in 1845 Clubs.
There is much pleasure to be gained from being a member of Rotary, not only for fellowship but for the satisfaction of contributing to a wide range of projects both local and international.
