"A Sponsored Swim"
A sponsored swim is to be held at the new Hexham Swimming Pool on Sunday 23rd November 2008. The swim has been jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Hexham, North Country Leisure, Tynedale District Council and Tynedale Swimming Club. In addition the event is being supported by Northumbrian Water and Waitrose.
The event is being organised to celebrate the opening of the new pool in Hexham and will be a major fund raising event with the proceeds raised being used to support Tynedale Charities. The event will also attract significant publicity in the Tynedale area.
The format will be on the basis of a 10 hour relay starting at 0900hrs and finishing at 1900 hrs. The objective is to have 60 teams of six persons. Each Team will swim for approximately one hour on a relay basis with six lanes being used throughout the day in the main pool. Teams are expected to obtain sponsorship from individuals and organisations based on the total number of successful lengths swum by the team and an amount per length.
The organising committee have attracted support from major sponsors and there will be prizes for a variety of categories. There will be an entry fee of £10 per team.
Teams can submit their applications to take part by completing the application form,which is available at Tynedale Leisure Centre or this website. The closing for applications in November 14th 2008, earlier applications would be very welcome.
